Near My Heart- Babywearing Class

Wearing ones baby in a pouch, carrier, or sling is an indigenous practice of many cultures around the world. It is not something special, as this western society will have you believe, but derived from a need by care takers who didn't have time to sit and entertain their baby because they had work to do. In today's society, most of us are busy and have full schedules trying to be good parents, so it just makes sense that in order to keep baby calm and get things done, the baby should be close, and wearing is an easy and simple solution.

This was a common practice prior to the early 1900's and parents (mother's) used a variety of different types of cloth and fabrics to wear their babies. This class will briefly discuss the history and benefits of baby wearing, safety when wearing, and show a few different types of carriers and how to wear a baby.
